Christian & Timbers is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Diemer to the Board of Directors of SES AI Corporation (NYSE: SES).
SES AI is a global developer and manufacturer of AI-enhanced high-performance Li-Metal and Li-ion batteries, headquartered in Boston with operations in Singapore, Shanghai, and Seoul. The company announced Mr. Diemer's appointment in August 2026.
The mandate
Battery companies scaling from advanced cell chemistry into infrastructure-grade deployment face a specific governance gap. The technology risk is understood. The harder question is industrialization: can the cell be manufactured at volume, at cost, at quality, and integrated into systems that hyperscalers and grid operators will actually buy?
SES AI needed a director who had lived that transition rather than observed it. The brief prioritized three things: deep power electronics and energy systems expertise, a track record taking products from architecture through high-volume production, and credibility with the datacenter and energy infrastructure buyers the company is moving toward.
The candidate
Paul Diemer has spent 25 years building power hardware.
Most recently he served as Chief Technology Officer for Critical and Embedded Power at Flex, where he led the global R&D and technology organizations responsible for the embedded and critical power systems behind AI datacenters - more than 1,000 engineers across 14 countries, with ownership of technology strategy across a multi-billion-dollar business segment.
Before Flex, he spent nearly 15 years at BorgWarner in roles spanning the full arc of electrification: Global Director of New Product Management, responsible for industrializing the company's fully integrated electric drive module; Director of Electrified Vehicle Architectures; Chief Engineer for EV and Hybrid Vehicle Integration; and Director of Engineering in China. He began his career in NVH and CAE engineering at FEV in 2001.
He currently serves as Senior Vice President of Corporate Engineering at Generac Power Systems, leading the corporate engineering organization across product strategy, technology development, and execution.
The combination is unusual. Automotive electrification taught cost discipline, quality systems, and volume manufacturing. Flex brought datacenter power at hyperscale. Generac sits at the intersection of storage, backup power, and grid services. That is close to the exact set of adjacencies SES AI is building into.
The outcome
Commenting on the appointment, Dr. Qichao Hu, SES AI founder and CEO, said Mr. Diemer's "extensive experience directing technology strategy in the data center infrastructure and energy storage space should provide meaningful insight and guidance as we continue to execute on our growth plans."
